SAN ANGELO–The American Heart Association's Heart Walk always turns out strong numbers and this year was no different as 300 turned out strong for a worthy cause.

The AHA-Heart Walk, presented by San Angelo Community Medical Center, was held Saturday, Oct. 15 at Unidad Park. Jamie Muth Corporate Market Director, for the American Heart Association, mentioned one new addition to this year's event.

"Prior to the start of the Heart Walk, because of our partnership with San Angelo Community Medical Center, we were able to train people with Hands-Only CPR, so that's what is really exciting and a new addition this year," Muth said.

The annual San Angelo 5K Run & Heart Walk has a competitive run and a non-competitive walk. Both 5K (3 mile) events raise funds to support cardiovascular research and education programs for Texas and the San Angelo community.

Muth mentioned that the top company, Ethicon, raised the most money, $5,500; the top walker also came from them as well.
"The event itself raised as of today, $45,000." "People can still go to sanangeloheartwalk.org and donate for the next 60 days," concluded Muth.

Last year's Heart Walk raised $40,000.
