SAN ANGELO – United Way of the Concho Valley’s Gift of Hope Golf Classic had 25 golf teams comprised of four team members sign up this morning for Monday afternoon’s 1:00 p.m. tee off at the Bentwood Country Club.

Conexión interviewed Le’Anne Taylor, Campaign Director for the UWCV, as she outlined some of the donated items for the silent auction and some of the golf teams, which were entered.

Among the 29 items up for auction were: a signed baseball cap by Texas Rangers’ Alex Claudio, Cinch Shoot Out tickets, an autographed football by former, Texas Tech quarterback, Kiff Kingsbury, etc.   

As for the golf teams, Ethicon, which is part sponsor of this year’s Golf Classic, had three teams signed up. Other teams entered were: Enter-Tel Services, AEP Texas, Mayfield Paper Company, etc.

Taylor stated that this is UW’s yearly major fundraiser and the goal was to raise $25,000. Last year UW raised $30,000.

Proceeds from the tournament support the United Way of the Concho Valley’s sixteen (16) local agency program providers.

At 5:30 p.m. the Classic tournament was to conclude; below are the posted golf scores, courtesy of Bentwood Country Club. The event concluded with remarks from Campaign Chair, Dr. Joe Muñoz, Angelo State University.

1st Place - Ryan Hayes. Carey Sartain. Tom Stovall. Benny Ward - Score 53 

2nd Place - Ronnie Thiers. Brad Fluitt. Keith McCutchen. Brett Baylin - Score 55 

3rd Place - Ray Grothaus. Brian Danco. Don Kerns. Chris Knappe - Score 55.

Chick-fil-A was this year’s sponsor for lunch.
