SAN ANGELO — Caron Transportation Systems USA has closed a three-year lease on a new 10-acre facility on Arden Road. The lease shows the oilfield trucking company’s commitment to staying and growing in San Angelo, said Kelly Cordell, general manager for U.S. operations.

The transportation company, with a parent company based in Alberta, Canada, has two U.S. operations, one in Williston, North Dakota and one in San Angelo.

The San Angelo operation opened in 2016 with a fleet of 40 sand-hauling tractor-trailers at 4398 Jackrabbit Trail. Trucks move sand from Brady to storage and drilling locations near Big Lake, Barnhardt, Rankin and Midland and Odessa.

The new Arden Road facility will serve as an operations terminal for West Texas and U.S. headquarters, Cordell said.

“San Angelo has a large skilled workforce and we have had great success at hiring local people. Caron is dedicated to the highest principles of customer service, safe operation and service excellence,” Cordell said. “We pride ourselves on being a people-focused company. The personal touch we extend to our customers and employees is reflected in all aspects of our operation; our values align well with the West Texas values of San Angelo.”

The San Angelo operation already employs 45 people, but Cordell said he expects that number to increase to 75 at the end of January with the move to Arden Road.

“Caron has long standing relationships in the oilfield and will continue to focus on structured growth as we expand our service offerings,” he said.

Cordell and Caron’s owner, Bruno Muller, have built the company’s San Angelo presence from a two-acre facility to a 21,800-square foot facility on 10 acres, said Michael Looney, vice president of economic development for the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce. “Once again, Caron continues to demonstrate its confidence in San Angelo and to providing state-of-the-art service to their regional oil company customers,” Looney said.

Looney said the Chamber of Commerce economic development team was happy to assist Caron Transportation, a company he described as “a powerhouse” in its expansion in San Angelo and reach into the Permian Basin.
