SAN ANGELO – At Wednesday’s 10:30 a.m. Naturalization Ceremony, Keynote speaker, Victor Rodriguez, greeted 40 individuals into what he called, “The great American family” as they were sworn in as the latest new, U.S. citizens. 

 

Rodriguez, Department of Homeland Security, Resident Agent in Charge, stated that while they originally entered the U.S. as foreign nationals they would exit as American citizens.

“And there will never be an asterisk next to your name saying, ‘that you were naturalized, or that you were anything less than a full-fledged member of the American family,” he said.

Listed among the 40 who were sworn in by U.S. Federal Judge, Scott Frost, were the oldest and the youngest to become citizens—Blasca Castro Gamboa, age 87, from Mexico, and 19-year-old, Iris Jacqueline Dominquez Sanchez. 

One other member to become a part of the of the U.S. family was Polina Bradham, originally from Kosovo.

Conexión asked Polina what it meant for her to finally become a U.S. citizen.

“It means the world to me because my family was calling me a “peasant” for the last week,” she said as her family picked on her in a good-natured way.” “Now we are together as one family as my husband, Kirk is a U.S. citizen.” 

Polina stated that Kirk prepped her for the test by the use of flash cards. Bradham felt comfortable when the time came for the day of the test as she correctly answered six out ten random questions she was given.
