SAN ANGELO – Among the hundreds of fathers who brought their daughters to last night’s 28th annual Daddy-Daughter Date night was Barry Noriega, who started a tradition with his own five-year-old daughter, Aubrey, which was passed on to him when his mother brought him years ago to this annual parent, offspring bonding event. This year's theme was Beauty and the Beast.

“It was really important, for me to bring her because I grew up coming to this event when as a six-year-old, my mother brought me,” he said. “It was a real joy as a parent to bring my daughter to this dance.”

When Aubrey was asked how she felt about coming with her Dad to Date night, her one-word response was “Happy.”

Barry Noriega and his five-year-old daughter, Aubrey, attended Daddy-Daughter Date night for the second consecutive year. Aubrey turned out to be the winner of a diamond necklace given away by Zales Jewelers.

Noriega and Aubrey’s night became even more memorable, shortly after 8 p.m. when Gus Constancio DJ Services, announced the ticket number that turned out be Aubrey’s as she came away the winner of a diamond necklace from Zales Jewelers.

Brent Casey, City Recreation Manager, stated that approximately 670 tickets were sold for Monday’s event. As for Tuesday’s Mother-Son Date night, thus far 350 have been sold, but he expects an increase in ticket sales at the door.

Belle's beauty character is portrayed by Maggie Daniel while the Beast character is played by Matthew Patschull.
In the Walt Disney movie, Beauty and the Beast, Belle (Emma Watson), a bright, beautiful and independent young woman, is taken prisoner by a beast (Dan Stevens) in its castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle's enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the beast's hideous exterior, allowing her to recognize the kind heart and soul of the true prince that hides on the inside.

Brent Casey, City Recreation Manager, is located in the back between Belle and Beast cut-outs. 22 full-time and part-time City staff were on hand, along with 10 volunteers from Goodfellow Air Force Base and other agencies to put on this popular event.

Gus Constancio provided DJ services for the 10th consecutive year at DDDN.

Date Night was created years ago to give girls and boys, ages 5-13 a special night during which they are the sole focus of their parent’s attention. DJ Constancio, who has been doing this for the past 10 years, always gets two favorite songs requested---Cupid Shuffle and Tug McGraw’s, “My Little Girl” etc.

The DDDN took place at the McNease Convention Center from 6 p.m.- 9 p.m.
