SAN ANGELO – At yesterday’s Super Bowl of Bridals known as the 27th annual West Texas Bridal Showcase, six future brides-to-be, competed for that Super Bowl trophy, sort of---a diamond ring that went to the eventual winner--Shylandria Briels.

Briels squared off against five other competitors for the right to dig into a four-tiered “naked engold” cake where a “fake” diamond was embedded.

It took 2:42 officially on the clock when Briels came up with the “fake” ring to exchange it for the real deal, compliments of Legend Jewelers.

The four tiered "naked engold" cake was made by Carter's Sugar Shop. The pineapple cake donated by Sugar Shop's owner, Shelly Carter. Flowers on cake were by Stemmed Design.

James Pettit, owner of West Texas Bridal and Pettit Productions held up the pearl necklace, valued at $300 that was donated by KOLLS Diamond Design.

James Pettit, owner of West Texas Bridal and Pettit Productions, presented the ring to Briels, who also came away earlier with a pearl necklace, valued at $300 from KOLLS Diamond of Designs.

Conexión asked Shylandria how did she know for sure she had the “fake” ring in her hand?

“it felt like a bead and when I squeezed it, I felt the sharp edge; then after I looked at it, I knew,” she said.

Briels whose fiancé is Clint Wildes, proposed to her on New Year’s Eve. A date has not been set, though Shylandria did say their dream wedding would possibly be in the summer on a beach in Galveston.

One other bride-to-be whose wedding date is on May 19 was Baylie Newton, engaged to San Angelo Police Officer, Jacob Beckwith. Balie’s fiancé, Jacob, then a cadet with SAPD, proposed to her last July 17, immediately after he was sworn-in at his police academy graduation ceremonies.

Baylie showed off her diamond ring that her fiancé gave her last July 17.

Baylie concluded the interview, stating that for her wedding there will be eight bridesmaids and eight groomsmen. And the wedding/reception will take place at Cain’s Cove, located at Lake Nasworthy.
