SAN ANGELO – At Tuesday’s City Council meeting, COSADC Economic Development Director, Roland Peña, stated that the item before the Council was to consider ratifying COSADC's approval of a resolution authorizing the Board President to execute a Memorandum of Understanding with Tom Green County providing local matching funds for the Fall 2017 DEAA Grant in support of the Goodfellow Air Force Base Training Mission Project.

“The County on behalf of Goodfellow Air Force Base submitted to the Governor’s office a request for $4.5 million dollars.” “As part of that request you have to have local matching funds of which I have already mentioned that COSADC has provided $1.5 million dollars.” “The difference comes from federal funds that Goodfellow is providing with the exception of nearly $767,000 dollars that will come from the community,” said Peña.

It is also the intention of the steering committee to seek that amount from the San Angelo Health Foundation.

“This item is specifically for you (City Council) to ratify a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between COSADC and Tom Green County." "The County does serve as the fiscal agent and the project manager of this project," said Peña. The total amount on the project would be $8.8 million.

Mayor, Brenda Gunter, interjected that the money will be used to expand the number of classrooms space; also because of the new missions that will be coming to San Angelo in 2018, it would also include expansion of the dining room facility to accommodate those missions. “San Angelo should see some rate impact from the additional missions; Goodfellow already represents 10 percent of our employment in this City,” said Gunter.

The Council unanimously approved the MOU, 7-0.
