SAN ANGELO - American Legion Smith-Bryant Post #572 will host its inaugural Vietnam Veterans

Day Celebration honoring veterans and their families on Thursday, March 29, at the LeGrand

Alumni and Visitors Center, 1620 University Ave.

The ceremony will begin at 6:30 p.m. and is open free to Vietnam War veterans, their families and

friends, and the public. Activities will include a Vietnam War Commemoration Ceremony, a

tribute to U.S. allies during the Vietnam War, various guest speakers, and the signing of a renewed

City of San Angelo 50th Vietnam War Commemoration Proclamation by Mayor Brenda Gunter.

Light refreshments will also be served.

During the commemoration ceremony, Vietnam War veterans will be welcomed home and

individually presented with a United States of America Vietnam War Commemoration lapel pin.

All living veterans who served on active duty during the period Nov. 1, 1955, through May 15,

1975, regardless of location of service, are eligible and invited to register for and attend this event.

Also, a Commemoration Certificate of Honor and distinctive lapel pin will be presented to

individuals in these four categories:

• Living former military POWs from the Vietnam War and surviving spouses of deceased

former Vietnam War POWs

• Family members of military personnel listed as missing or unaccounted for from the

Vietnam War

• Family members of veterans who are listed on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in

Washington, D.C.

• Surviving spouse at the time of death of a deceased Vietnam War veteran as described


Veterans, spouses and family members wishing to participate in the ceremony need to register in

advance at so the certificates and pins can be approved and ordered.

The deadline to register is March 15, 2018.

The Vietnam Veterans Day Celebration is also being supported by the EC-47 History Site

Commemorative Partner Program Committee, whose members include the Heritage Chapter –

Freedom Through Vigilance Association, the All Veterans Council of Tom Green County, San

Angelo Lions Clubs and Elks Lodge, several offices and departments at Angelo State University,

the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce and several others. These organizations may schedule

other activities throughout the day as well. Check the website for updates and new information.
