Conexión San Ángelo / Staff report

SAN ANGELO – Jon James, Director of Planning & Development Services, Planning and Development Services, appeared before the City Council’s Tuesday meeting this morning for a first reading and public hearing of an ordinance amending Chapter 5 "Business and Commerce", Section 5.04.034 by creating an exception to the itinerant merchant permit for persons holding a mobile or temporary food establishment permit (food trucks).

The City staff had reviewed the regulations that apply to food trucks that operate within the City in an attempt to streamline the process for permits for those businesses.

As part of that review, and after a public forum on the topic, the city planning, legal and police departments felt confident that removing the requirement for an itinerant vendor permit for those holding a mobile or temporary food establishment permit will not have a negative impact on the safety of the public.

This ordinance creates an exception to the itinerant vendor requirements for those holding a mobile or temporary food establishment permit making it easier for those wishing to operate food trucks to operate.

The City Council by a 7-0 unanimous vote, approved the ordinance.
