SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo Chamber of Commerce on a yearly basis sets aside on its’ schedule, Goodfellow Air Force Base to give the Chamber members and the community an update.

At Tuesday’s luncheon, guest speaker, Colonel, Jeffery Sorrell, Vice Commander of the 17th Training Wing, spoke on various topics but particularly one related to its’ community partnerships and engagement with the community.

Col. Sorrell mentioned successful stories that involved both entities. One was in 2017 when GFAB won two awards as it competed against 12 other installations.

Another successful collaborative relationship was a Partnership Agreement related to the STARBASE Program which was started in September 2017, one of four academies in Texas and will serve over 1,200 students from the San Angelo Independent School District. STARBASE introduces children from all backgrounds to the world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, according to its website http://www.goodfellow.af.mil

One other example Sorrell cited was the Air Force Community Partnership Program Leadership Excellence award that was accepted on behalf of the City of San Angelo and Goodfellow Air Force Base earlier in the year, February 12.
