Conexión San Ángelo / Staff report

SAN ANGELO – The 2nd Media Convergence Seminar hosted by Angelo State University’s Department of Communication and Mass Media, featured six heavy hitters on the national level such as ESPN and the Boston Globe’s Bob Ryan, to six local media representatives, among them Conexión San Ángelo as the seminar was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the third floor of the Porter Henderson Library.

This year’s seminar took on a different feel as it was broken up into two sessions and three rooms to give it a more personal touch with ASU students having access to the media representatives.

The moderator, Vince Salazar, after introductions to Greg Jaynes with Mix It Up Media, Chrys Forbes of Live Design and Conexión’s Jim Sánchez, opened up the discussion on the topic: The Social Media Environment and Advertising.

“We’re seeing an ever-changing social media world, what are some of the ways that you have to keep up with the changes?” asked Salazar.

“Social media is where all advertising is headed toward within the next five for sure 10 years from now.” I also work at KIDY Fox with television commercials and that is a good market, but you are going to hit more people with social media,” said Greg Jaynes.

Other topics relevant to the communication and mass media industry, included:

• How to Get that First Job

• How to Network

• News and Sports Broadcasting

Besides Ryan in the lineup of well known national media:

• Todd Piro, Fox News Network

Local media was represented by:

• David Wagner, news director, KLST/KSAN TV, San Angelo
