SAN ANGELO – TxDOT welcomed a new addition to its family Monday morning, April 16 with the unveiling of “Don’t EWE Mess with Texas” fiberglass sheep dedicated in front of the District headquarters, 4502 Knickerbocker Road.

Mark Jones, TxDOT San Angelo District Engineer, informed its employees and others in attendance that a competition was held last year between all 212 San Angelo District employees to name the sheep. “The winner who came up with the name was the Eden Maintenance Section. As for the artist who painted the fiberglass sheep, it was Todd D’Spain.

Jones concluded the dedication ceremonies, stating why TxDOT was interested in wanting its own fiberglass sheep.

“To support TxDOT’s Traffic Safety and litter campaign by proving public outreach.” “And, in support of Downtown San Angelo’s Sheep Spectacular—a tribute to the historic sheep industry of this region that played an important part in shaping San Angelo to what it is today,” said Jones.
