SAN ANGELO –  Almost a year ago last May, the San Angelo Downtown Kiwanis Club informed Conexión that the Texas Historical Commission had officially approved the Kiwanis Club’s Little Olympics as a historical event.

At Tuesday’s noon Texas Historical Marker Dedication, the Kiwanis Club finally received its recognition after a two-year process with the unveiling of a Texas Historical marker.

“We found out about the process from Golda Foster, Chairman of the Tom Green County Historical Commission. She spoke at our Club meeting and mentioned that events [such as the Little Olympics] could have historical recognition,” said Carol Atkins, Past President of the Kiwanis Club.

Atkins concluded her remarks, stating that Kiwanis wanted the marker dedicated at the San Angelo Stadium because that is where the Little Olympics is held on an annual basis.

The Kiwanis’ 77th running of the Little Olympics gets underway with a two-day meet on Thursday and Friday, May 3-4.
