SAN ANGELO – At this year’s eighth annual Heart of Texas Conference on Aging, 16 agencies showed up to hear from three guest speakers: J.T. Tucker, a Chaplin, Kathy Powell, an RN and Shelly Bailey, Long-Term Services, Support Coordinator. The HOTC was hosted by the Area on Aging Agency.

Rosy Hernandez, Adult Protective Services, Supervisor, stated that the conference speakers had excellent information, especially for social workers that was beneficial.

The first hour of the conference dealt with advanced care directives which are related to hospital studies “And then Shelly spoke on Medicaid Managed Care, Medical Transportation and available Long-Term Services, Supports and programs education” stated Hernandez.

Rev. Tucker is the Chaplin and Coordinator of Pastoral Care at Shannon Medical Center. The second speaker, Powell led a panel discussion. Powell is an RN with 39 years of hospital experience.  

The 16 agencies represented were: Amerigroup, Area Agency on Aging, Baptist Retirement Community, Interim Hospice

The HOTC, which was sponsored by Amerigroup, Baptist Retirement Community and the Dazzling Dames, was held in the Sugg Room, located on the third floor of the Stephen Central Library.
