SAN ANGELO – The newest 33 individuals to become citizens at this morning’s Naturalization Ceremony were congratulated by guest speaker, Del Velasquez who welcomed them into the family called the United States.  The 10:30 a.m. ceremony took place at the O.C. Fisher Federal Building as the Honorable Judge, Scott Frost, led the individuals representing five countries in an Oath of Allegiance.

Velasquez, Director of Downtown San Angelo, Inc. in his brief remarks stated that each of them had a story to tell about their journey and how they got here. “Each of you have made a commitment to learn a new culture, a new language so that you can have the opportunity to enrich you and your families’ lives,” he said.

“It is a solemn occasion of what it means for you to become a U.S. citizen and what better time to do it than right now with Flag Day coming up (June 14) and July 4th.” “This 4th of July will be extremely meaningful to all of you,” said Mario Ortiz, Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.  

Of the 27 individuals from Mexico to become a U.S. Citizen, one of them was 24-year-old, Abygale Estefania Gonzalez.
