SAN ANGELO – Open Arms Rape Crisis Center and LGBT+ Services will celebrate Pride Week June 24 through June 30 with a variety of events around San Angelo.

“Pride is not just a big party,” said K’Danz Cruz, Director of LGBT+ Services at Open Arms. “It’s also about education, visibility, self-affirmation, dignity, and equal rights.”

The theme for this year’s celebration is “Unity Colors our City with Pride”. The full schedule of events is as follows:

Candlelight Vigil (June 24, 6 p.m.): This will be a time to remember and honor those in the LGBT+ community who have passed away because they were victims of violent hate crimes. The vigil will be held at the San Angelo Visitor Center located at 418 W. Ave B.

Drag Bingo (June 24, 8 p.m.): There will be plenty of prizes, so don’t miss it! Drag Bingo will be held at The Beauregard located at 1421 W. Beauregard.

Dine for a Cause (June 25, 4 p.m.-10 p.m.): As part of their Dine for a Cause program, Texas Roadhouse will donate 10 percent of food purchases between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. to Open Arms. Texas Roadhouse is located at 3057 Loop 306. 

Freddy’s Frozen Custard and Steakburgers is also participating this year. Freddy’s will donate 15 percent of food purchases between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. to Open Arms. Freddy’s is located at 2702 Southwest Blvd.

Paint & Sip (June 26, 6:30 p.m.): We will be painting a Pride inspired painting led by Crystal Goodman. Paint & Sip will be held at The Beauregard located at 1421 W. Beauregard.

Lunch & Learn (June 27, 12 noon-1 p.m.): Open Arms will present information and education regarding LGBT+ issues. Lunch & Learn will be held at the Tom Green County Library, 3rd Floor Community Room.

Town Hall and Panel Discussion (June 27, 6 p.m. – 9 p.m.): Open Arms will present an information night and panel discussion at the Tom Green County Library, 3rd Floor Community Room. Featured panelists include Dr. Jenny Wiggins-Smith and the Rev. Dr. Timothy Davenport-Herbst. The Library is located at 33 W. Beauregard. 

Pool Party (June 28, 6 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.): Open Arms will host a family friendly pool party at Angelo Place Apartments. All are welcome and encouraged to bring their own beverage (but no glass bottles). Minors will be tagged at the gate. Angelo Place is located at 1426 Western Ct.

A Night of Illusions Drag Show (June 29, 9 p.m.): Open Arms will present the “Night of Illusions” drag show at The Beauregard. Open Arms Director of LGBT+ Services K’Danz Cruz will emcee the event. Show is for ages 18+ and IDs will be checked at the door. There is a $10 cover charge.  The Beauregard is located at 1421 W. Beauregard.

Pride Stride 5K Run/1 Mile Walk (June 30, 7 a.m.): Registration is at 7 a.m. and the first heat starts at 8 a.m. at Kirby Park. Entry fee is $30 ages 18 and up, $15 ages 12-18, $10 ages 5-12, under 5 are free as are Military with ID. T-shirts will sell from $15 - $18 after June 16. “Out” in the Park (June 30, 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.): In conjunction with the Pride Stride, Open Arms will be hosting a family friendly gathering at Kirby Park. Food vendors, community agencies, and local product vendors will all be on hand. There will also be live entertainment by the No Labels Society Roller Derby Girls and a bounce house for the kids.

The Official Pride After-Party (June 30, 10 p.m.): Following the festivities at the park, Open Arms will host a night of fun and dancing at Club Patron. There is a $5 cover charge. Club Patron is located at 1616 S. Chadbourne.
