SAN ANGELO, TX – In July, San Angelo ISD announced its winners for the media honor roll, which recognizes people and organizations in print, radio, television, and digital media.

The winners were Jeffrey Rottman of KIXY, Michelle Gaitan of San Angelo Standard Times, and Jim Sanchez of Conexión San Angelo.

Jeffrey Rottman, News Director of KIXY has been working for Foster Communications for 30 years and has won this award many times.

“We’re just trying to have a positive impact on the community, show the community what the school board is doing, what the schools are doing because they are making a good difference [a great difference on the students]. We at Foster Communication just want to present that as best we can,” Rottman said.

“I just appreciate the recognition for the work that we’re doing and thank them for recognizing what we do and sometimes reporters and media people don’t get recognized,” he said.

Michelle Gaitan, Multimedia Journalist of San Angelo Standard Times, started her career five years ago in San Angelo and has received this award three times.

“Overall, I think SAISD is doing really well with the community, they seem to really push for a strong education with all the students that they have here. And I think going forward that they will continue to do that,” Gaitan said.

“They’ve been a great support to me [my family], I am one of five kids, so I really do appreciate their support and the believe in me and that’s helped me along the way,” she said.

Jim Sanchez, who is a journalist at Conexión San Angelo grew up in San Angelo and so did his parents.

“We wanted to do it in a positive way with the community because there is so much bad that’s done today, you have to look at the good,” Sanchez said.

“It’s an honor and a privilege to represent Conexión and to the community,” he said.

“I’m appreciative of them [my mom and dad] and appreciative of the community.”

Congratulations to all winners and a big thank you for what you do for the community.
