SAN ANGELO–In Friday night's district 4-5A opener between the Chiefs vs Mustangs, Lubbock Coronado spotted Lake View seven points before eventually running roughshod on the way to a 56-14 lopsided score.

Lubbock Coronado ran by, over and around the Chiefs, once they got the lead late in the first quarter.

While the temperature at kick-off from San Angelo Stadium was a cool 63 degrees, under windy conditions and cloudy skies, Lubbock Coronado turned on the afterburners to score 14 points in the first, second, third and fourth quarter.

The only saving grace for the Chiefs not getting shut-out was when Chiefs' back, Devin Williams, took a swing pass from Quarterback, Henry Nickias, and turned it into an electrifying 69 yard touchdown jaunt.
The Chiefs on their first offensive series were facing a third and four from their 31-yard line. After PAT, Lake View led 7-0, though it was short-lived.

Before the first quarter ended, the Chiefs gave up the lead as the Mustangs' scored on an explosive 99-yard catch and run that took place down the left sidelines as quarterback Qua Gray connected with receiver, Devin Morrison. The Mustangs were facing a second down and long when the prime-time play occurred.

Scoring from then on was all Lubbock Coronado (6-0, 1-0 District) as at the end of the first, Mustangs led 14-7, then 28-7 at halftime, 42-7 after the third quarter; and finally 56-14 the final score.

The Chiefs, now 0-1 in district and 1-4 overall, move on to their next assignment against the Lubbock Westerners (1-5) on Friday, Oct. 14. Kick-off is at 7:30 p.m.
