SAN ANGELO–The No. 5/9 Angelo State men's basketball team fell in overtime, 97-89, to Texas A&M – Commerce on Saturday night in the Stephens Arena at the Junell Center.

With the loss, the Rams fall to 10-2 overall and 2-2 in the Lone Star Conference. ASU had four players score double-figure points, two of which topped the 20 point plateau. Texas A&M – Commerce improved to 12-2, 5-1 LSC with the win.

Quay King and Lorenzo Dillard led the team in scoring against the Lions. King's season high seven 3-pointers helped the senior record a team high 25 points on the night. This was accompanied by a steal to assist the defense. Dillard followed with 24 total points leading the squad from the foul line as he hit a perfect 6-6. The point guard led the team with four assists and recorded a steal for the game.

DeVonte' Pratt and Brandon Williams also recorded double-digit points for the Rams. Pratt's 16 points marked a career high for the senior. Defensively, he was one board short of a double-double as he turned in nine for the night. The captain was also one-of-four Rams to pocket a steal. Williams marked his first double-double of the season with an 11 point and 10 rebound performance. He added a blocked shot to his total defensive numbers on the season.

Thomas Tshikaya and Justin Hollins anchored the Rams defense against the Lions. Tshikaya headed the team grabbing 12 boards. He added a blocked shot and dropped in seven points. Hollins once again led the group with three blocked shots. This marked his fifth game this season with three or more blocks.

The Rams opened the game on an 8-2 run, which was headed by a pair of threes from Tshikaya and King. At the 16:34 mark with an 8-5 lead, a Pratt jumper kicked off a 9-2 run that saw five points from Dillard and a Williams jumper inside the paint. ASU would continue to hold the lead throughout the half, leading by as much as 12 points (27-15) with 11:52 on the clock. However, TAMUC slowly cut the Rams lead to just two points by the end of the half. The two teams would exit the court for halftime with 44-42 on the board with ASU on top.

The Lions came out of locker room and opened the second half with a 6-0 run to mark its first lead of the game. Dillard and Williams quickly responded sinking seven points to regain the lead for the Rams. TAMUC would then string together an 8-2 run of its own to take back the lead by a score of 58-54 with 14:00 left in the second half. A jumper by Napoleon Onyeje, followed by jumpers from Pratt and Tshikaya would turn the lead over to the Rams for the third time of the game. Angelo State would maintain the lead until a Lion free throw would tie the game at 80 with 30 seconds on the game clock. In overtime ASU would be outscored 17-9 giving Texas A&M – Commerce the win.  

The Rams hit the road with match-ups against West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas on Thursday, January 12 at 7:30 p.m. and UT – Permian Basin in Odessa, Texas on Saturday, January 14 at 4 p.m.
