SAN ANGELO – While three individuals representing their respective Forts: Courtney Jimenez, John Koehn and Rick Dill won first through third place ribbons, it was San Angeloan, Dill who also won the biggest prize—the 2018 Hesse Championship Trophy which was presented at Saturday evening’s concluding 3rd Annual Calvary Horsemanship Regionals Competition awards ceremony. The ceremony took place in the Fort Concho Commissary.

After 24 men and women competed in three days of intense competitive Military Horsemanship, Jumping, Saber, Combat Horsemanship and Pistol competition, Jimenez emerged as the third place winner, Specialist, Koehn placed second and Dill finished in first place. Both Jimenez and Koehn represented Fort Carson while Dill was from Fort Concho.

“To God be the glory, but I would also be amiss if I didn’t give the real honor to my partner, Chance,” said Dill, referring to his 10-year-old horse who brought his A-game on Championship Saturday as horse and rider both showed up to win it.

Conexión interviewed Dill afterward. Rick said he felt he had a good run in competing, but the competition was stiff for first place and the Hesse Cup.

“While the numbers were a little bit low, the talent level certainly was not one of them.” To win the Hesse Cup you have to place in the top five, based upon all five areas, stated Dill.
