What Does The Bible Say?

How God Saves

People have always had a lot of questions concerning why men are lost and how they may be saved.

Romans 3:21-26 says... “But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from law, although the law and the prophets bear witness to it, the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ for all who believe. For there is no distinction; since all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, they are justified by His grace as a gift, through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus, whom God put forward as an expiation by his blood, to be received by faith. This was to show God’s righteousness, because in His divine forbearance He had passed over former sins; it was to prove at the present time that He Himself is righteous and that He justifies him who has faith in Jesus.”

From this scripture, we learn:

1. All men sin.

2. Only God can save (forgive). Verse 21

3. The act of forgiving or saving on God’s part is an act of grace. Verse 24

4. The grace of God is a gift offered to man. Verse 23

5. Everyone needs this gift since all men sin. Verse 23

6. God does this (saves men) through the redemption, which is in Jesus. Verse 24

7. This gracious gift (salvation by the substitution of Jesus’ blood) is received by our faith. Verse 25

8. This act of grace from God shows His forbearance by passing over our sins. Verse 25

9. This great gift declares the righteousness and the love of God. Verse 26

Since the only way to be forgiven is in Jesus Christ, and since the only way to receive this gift is by faith, we as believers must be very careful to take God at His word. This means we believe the promises and obey His commandments.
