San Angelo’s 1st annual, Tamale Fest will kick-off the first official, major event of the year on Saturday, January 7, 2022. The Fest will be held at the Pop Art Museum located at 125 W. Twohig Ave.
SAN ANGELO –In Mexico, Día de los Reyes which means Days of the three Wise Men is very similar to the three wise men who are depicted in the biblical account when they came bearing gifts given to the baby, Jesus.
While both cultures have similar traditions, the one difference is that this Mexican holiday, tradition incorporates gifts given to children.
Luis Urteaga, coordinator for San Angelo’s 1st annual, Tamale Fest decided to add this Hispanic tradition to its all-star line up of upcoming vendors, judges, prizes, and of course the main Mexican dish, tamales. Tamale Fest’titled sponsor is San Angelo’s Brix Winery located at 113 E. Concho Ave.
The Fest/ Día de los Reyes festival will be on Saturday, January 7, 2023 from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Pop Art Museum, 125 W. Twohig Ave.
Urteaga stated thus far 25 vendors have come on board, among them: Señor Chang’s, Henry’s Diner, Q99, KMDX, etc. There will be approximately eight judges for the Best Tamale Contest: best pork, best chicken, best original, best overall, and cash prizes will be awarded.
There will be a $2 admission charge while 11-years-old and under get in free. Kids will be given gifts in the form of toys, electronic also. The best thing about the purchase of a ticket is it gives everyone an opportunity at a raffle drawing for prizes such as electronics, and other gifts.

SAN ÁNGELO – En México, el Día de los Reyes celebra a los tres reyes magos que se representan en el relato bíblico cuando llegaron con regalos que le dieron al bebé Jesús.
Si bien ambas culturas tienen tradiciones similares, la única diferencia es que esta tradición festiva mexicana incorpora regalos que se dan a los niños.
Luis Urteaga, coordinador del primer Tamale Fest anual de San Ángelo, decidió agregar esta tradición hispana a su lista estelar de próximos vendedores, jueces, premios y, por supuesto, el plato principal mexicano, los tamales. El patrocinador titulado de Tamale Fest es Brix Winery de San Angelo, ubicado en 113 E. Concho Ave.
El festival Fest/ Día de los Reyes será el sábado 7 de enero de 2023 de 10 a.m. a 5 p.m. en el Museo de Arte Pop, 125 W. Twohig Ave.
Urteaga indicó que hasta el momento se han incorporado 25 vendedores, entre ellos: Señor Chang's, Henry's Diner, Q99, KMDX, etc. Habrá aproximadamente ocho jueces para el Concurso de Mejor Tamal: mejor cerdo, mejor pollo, mejor original, mejor en general, y se otorgarán premios en efectivo.
Habrá un cargo de entrada de 2 dólares mientras que los menores de 11 años entran gratis. Los niños recibirán regalos en forma de juguetes, también electrónicos. Lo mejor de la compra de un boleto es que les da a todos la oportunidad de participar en una rifa de premios como artículos electrónicos y otros regalos.
