City Council names new fire chief

City Council on Tuesday, July 19, officially approved the appointment of Patrick Brody as fire chief of the San Angelo Fire Department.

Brody has been in the fire service since 2001, serving all 21 of those years with SAFD. He was interim fire chief from Feb. 2022-July 2022 and assistant fire chief of administration for three years prior to interim chief. He holds a master certification in both structural and aircraft rescue firefighting, in addition to being a certified incident commander, hazardous material incident commander, and an incident safety officer. He also has his Certified Fire Executive designation from the Texas Fire Chiefs Association.

He and his wife, Kristy, have been married almost 25 years and have two sons who are 17 and 19.

“I’m humbled and honored that the City has selected me for this position,” Brody said. “I’ve spent the majority of my life in San Angelo – I love this community and the San Angelo Fire Department. It is an honor to be able to continue to serve the citizens and the members of our department. San Angelo is a rapidly growing community and our department is prepared and excited to meet the demands of the future.”

City Manager Daniel Valenzuela is confident Brody will be an asset as fire chief.

“Through his experience, successes and years in the San Angelo Fire Department, Chief Brody is a proven leader,” Valenzuela said. “I am assured in his abilities to excel in this new position.”
