SAN ANGELO – The annual, West Texas Legislative Summit’s 1:30 afternoon panel topic addressed-- Intelligence & National Security: From Cyber Threats to Global Competition.
Congressman August Pfluger, TX11 who served as the moderator posed the question to the six distinguished panel members, “What keeps you at night when it comes to National Security?”
“The greatest threat to national security more than a decade ago is the national debt; it has gone from $10 trillion dollars to $32 trillion. We are soon going to be paying more interest on the national debt than we appropriated for the Defense Department” said Congressman Keith Self, TX3.
Congressman Self stated it was vital to slow down the national debt to focus attention on China so the U.S. could provide equipment that was promised to and sold to other countries to recruit, train and retain, airmen, marines, soldiers, and sailors. If we don't get a handle on our national debt, we will defeat ourselves.”
The other panel members included: Morgan Ortagus, Fmr. Spokesperson, U.S. Department of State, Colonel Angelina Maguinness, Commander 17TRW, Goodfellow Air Force Base, Keith Sledd, Chairman, Governor’s Committee to Support the Military, Mark Montgomery, Admiral (Ret.), Director, Cyberspace Solarium Commission, and Ronnie Hawkins, Jr., President, at Angelo State University.
