San Angelo, Texas – The San Angelo Health foundation has provided a grant to the Girl Scouts of Central Texas to assist in launching the first Mobile STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) Experience Center. The launch took place on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the San Angelo Girl Scout headquarters located at 304 W. Ave A. The San Angelo Chamber of Commerce was on site in support of the launch. Heather Kumpe, Director of Membership and Operations at the Chamber of Commerce, a Girl Scout herself opened the activities.
“Girl Scouts serves 400 girls here in the Concho Valley. Girls improve their critical thinking skills and confidence. It’s not just cookies, camping, and crafts,” stated Kumpe. This center focuses on introducing STEM to Girl Scouts of all ages.
The Girl Scouts Chief of Marketing and Communications, Kursten Mitchell recognized Suzie Marshall, member at large and owner of Q’s Printing and Design for her outstanding efforts in fund raising. Suzie received the Greatest Gift for Girls award. “Volunteering with the Girl Scouts is paying back all the good things that have happen to me. If it wasn’t for the Girl Scouts, I probably wouldn’t own a business and be who I am,” commented Marshall.
Harry Thomas, City Council Member, District 3, Tom Early, President of San Angelo Health Foundation, and Deborah Watson, Vice President of Operations attended the launch.
“I would love for every girl that experiences STEM to tell a friend and get everyone involved,” concluded Deborah Watson.

San Ángelo, Texas – La fundación San Angelo Health ha otorgado una contribución a Girl Scouts del centro de Texas para ayudar a lanzar el primer Centro de experiencia móvil STEM (Ciencia, Tecnología, Ingeniería y Matemáticas). El sábado 2 de noviembre de 2019 se llevó a cabo el lanzamiento en la sede Girl Scout ubicada en San Ángelo en 304 W. Ave A. La Cámara de Comercio de San Ángelo estuvo en el lugar para apoyar el lanzamiento. Quien fue una Girl Scout, Heather Kumpe, Directora de Membresía y Operaciones de la Cámara de Comercio, abrió las actividades.
“Aquí en el Valle del Concho las Girl Scouts sirven a 400 niñas. Las niñas mejoran sus habilidades de pensamiento crítico y su confianza. No se trata solo de galletas, campamentos y artesanías ", afirmó Kumpe. Este centro se enfoca en presentar STEM a Girl Scouts de todas las edades.
Kursten Mitchell, jefa de Marketing y Comunicaciones de las Girl Scouts, reconoció a Suzie Marshall, miembro en general y propietaria de Q’s Printing and Design por sus esfuerzos sobresalientes en la recaudación de fondos. Suzie recibió el premio al mejor regalo para niñas. “Ser voluntario con las Girl Scouts es devolver todas las cosas buenas que me han pasado. Si no fuera por las Girl Scouts, probablemente no sería dueña de un negocio y no sería quien soy", comentó Marshall.
