SAN FELIPE DEL RIO CISD
Press Release – August 16, 2023
A vehicle struck a child who attends Irene C. Cardwell Elementary during the morning drop-off at
the school. Information received from EMT at the scene stated that the child sustained minor
injuries such as scrapes, burns, and bruises. Although it appears that there were no serious
injuries sustained, it is the hospital’s protocol to airlift an individual who has been injured in a motor
vehicle accident such as this one.
District and school officials have been in continuous contact with the child’s parent. As of this
press release, the parent notified officials that his daughter “is in good spirits and is stable. She
did not even cry during the flight. Medics are preparing her next for X-Rays and checking on her
bumps and bruises.”
We cannot stress the importance of being vigilant, using extreme caution, and reducing your
speed when driving through school zones and school parking areas. We urge parents and the
greater community help to us keep our children safe throughout the school year.
