San Angelo, TX – August 22, 2024 – The San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Museum is thrilled to announce a special partnership with the San Angelo Independent School District (SAISD) to bring renowned astronaut Dr. Jose Hernandez to speak to local 5th graders on the morning of September 16, 2024. This engaging educational opportunity will take place as part of Hispanic Heritage Month and coincides with Dr. Hernandez's visit to San Angelo for the Hispanic Heritage Month Banquet later that evening.Dr. Hernandez, a celebrated astronaut and the first immigrant farm worker to journey into space, will address SAISD 5th graders at a dedicated event designed to inspire and educate young students about space exploration, perseverance, and the value of cultural heritage. This unique presentation aims to ignite curiosity and provide students with a firsthand account of Dr. Hernandez’s remarkable journey and achievements.“We are honored to collaborate with San Angelo Independent School District to offer this extraordinary experience to our local students,” said Suzanna Valenzuela, Vice-President of the San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Museum. “Dr. Hernandez’s story of overcoming obstacles and achieving great heights in the field of space exploration will undoubtedly serve as a powerful inspiration for our young learners. The event will provide students with a unique opportunity to engage with a prominent figure in space science and gain a greater understanding of the contributions made by individuals from diverse backgrounds.Following his visit to SAISD, Dr. Hernandez will be the keynote speaker at the San Angelo Hispanic Heritage Month Banquet, which will be held at the McNease Convention Center on the evening of September 16, 2024.
